TCA Peel

What is a TCA Peel?

Trichloroacetic acid peel (TCA peel) is a chemical peel to help rejuvenate the skin by removing the top layer of damaged skin with healthier tissue improving wrinkles, blemishes and overall brightening of the skin. It is a great non-invasive way to maintain the health of your skin and keep you looking fresh.

Procedure

On the day of your procedure, your skin will be cleansed to remove the natural oils to improve the efficacy of the chemical peel. The TCA peel will then be applied to your skin until a desired endpoint is achieved. Aquaphor will be placed on the treated skin and you will then be able to go home.

FAQs

You will be able to resume normal activities after your peel, however, you will want to avoid the sun for the first 2 weeks and use good sun protection up to 4-6 weeks after the peel such as sunscreen and wide-brimmed hats. Over the course of the first week, you will notice some redness and swelling of the skin that slowly improves followed by the skin peeling off and being replaced with fresh skin. You should be mostly healed by day 7-10.

During the peel, you may notice a slight burning sensation for about a minute to the treated area before it subsides. Most patients certainly feel the mild burn but find it tolerable and resolves fairly quickly. There should be no pain after the procedure.

Chemical peels are designed to rejuvenate the skin by replacing old, unhealthy skin with new, healthier skin. You should notice some improvements in fine lines, skin blemishes, and an overall brightening effect to the skin. Dr. Patel can then discuss a skincare regimen for you to help maintain the health of your skin.
